As a young man determined to make his way and support a family, Emil Panichi launched Royal Carting as a part-time second job with a small loan and a single truck. A living example of learning the business "hands on," Emil collected the garbage cans house-by-house while his employee drove the truck on their single Duchess County route.
Since that humble beginning, Emil has committed his time and energy to see Royal Carting grow and thrive across the Hudson Valley. Through the years, the business has expanded from residential garbage collection to include drop off service and commercial waste removal. Royal remains a pioneer in recycling, having designed its first recycling program in 1977. Today, more than half of our vehicles are zero emission.
Royal Carting (with sister company Welsh Sanitation) employs nearly 200 Hudson Valley residents and operates a fleet of specialized vehicles, along with its own single stream recycling dropoff center and two NYS DEC permitted transfer stations.
Having entered the business as teenagers working on weekends and school breaks, daughters Elisa and Evelyn are proud to carry on the Panichi family business tradition and community service mission that are the heart of Royal Carting.

A Perspective on the Bank’s History from our Chairman, President and CEO.
Putnam County Savings Bank was founded in 1871, in the General Store of Alexander Lobdell, across from the present railroad station in Brewster, New York. Though originally established to serve local farmers and townsfolk, PCSB grew as more people left New York City to make their homes and start businesses in the Lower Hudson Valley. When the Putnam Division of the Harlem Railroad was completed in 1880, the area truly blossomed and Putnam County Savings Bank became more than just a “local” institution.
PCSB built a reputation as a bank that genuinely cared about its customers and the towns where they lived. We were also known as a vital partner for local retailers and businesses. That solid foundation fueled the decision to expand, starting with a new branch in Mahopac, followed by Somers and Pawling. Soon PCSB branches opened in Jefferson Valley, Kent and Fishkill, then Pawling Village and Yorktown Heights.
